Legendary world kickboxing champion, Lou Neglia, brings his premier mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, Ring of Combat, which has sent over 100 professional fighters to the UFC, back to the Tropicana Atlantic City, New Jersey, Friday, June 3rd.
Every success story has a beginning and Ring of Combat has started the journey for many MMA stars. With every show, ROC fighters get closer to join many fellow alumni in the UFC. ROC makes sure their fighters are battle tested like no other promotion.
Living by his code, “tough fights make great fighters,” Ring of President, Lou Neglia, takes great pride in every fight card. “Putting on tough fights is good for the fans that pay to see a night of action,” said Lou. “Not only is it good for the fans but it’s also good for the fighters. You either win or you learn in a tough fight. You gain nothing in a easy fight,” he continued.
Lou pulled no punches when assembling the fight card for ROC 55. “Ring of Combat has provided the platform for many success stories and this card is no different,” said Lou. “This card is a great lineup of fighters who all are possible future stars. Come see which of your favorite fighter will join other ROC alumni in the UFC rankings,” Lou continued.
The main event has the return of, New York’s Gregor “The Gift” Gillespie (6-0) defending his regional ROC lightweight title for the second time. Gillespie, who has some of the best wrestling credentials in all of MMA, looks to make a statement in this fight. Many feel that with a dominant performance, Gillespie’s next fight will be in the UFC. The man looking to derail Gillespie and win the title in the process is Sidney Outlaw (5-2). We last seen Outlaw at ROC 53 where he fought Elijah Harshbarger at welterweight. Outlaw will now compete at lightweight for Gillespie’s title.
In the co-main event, Chicago’s Jose Mariscal (3-1) will take on Frank Buenafuente (5-3) of New Jersey. Mariscal bursted on the east coast MMA scene when he defeated highly regarded Max Bohanan late last year. Mariscal fell short in a bid for Gillespie’s lightweight title at ROC 54. Now he takes on the red hot Buenafuente for the vacant featherweight title. Buenafuente is riding a three fight win streak.
New Jersey’s Mike Elshamy (3-2) will take on Eric Roncoroni (4-1) for the vacant middleweight title. In what many consider round two of their classic battle, the rematch is set for these two gladiators. Roncoroni defeated Elshamy at ROC 53 after the fight doctor stopped the fight at the end of round one due to a severe cut above the eye of Elshamy. Now he looks to even up the score against Roncoroni for Ring of Combat gold.
The Ring of Combat 55 non title bouts are: Jenna Serio (2-1) vs Sadee Monseratte Williams (0-1-1), Guram Mestvirishvili (2-1) vs Brian Booth (3-2), MaxBohanan (6-1) vs Jim Spicuzza (6-3), Matt Church (3-1) vs Nekruz Mirkhojaev (1-0), Anthony Genovese (2-0) vs Sukhrob Aidarbekov (0-2), Mike Trizano (1-0) vs Raul Gonzales (3-1), Nike Fiore (0-1) vs Themi Papadimitriov (0-2), James Gonzalez (0-1) vs Will Calhoun III (1-1), Gregy Styles (2-0) vs Tajuddin Abdul-Hakim (2-0)
(CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
Ring of Combat has made a name for itself unlike any other MMA promotion by being the platform that launched the careers of former UFC champions Chris Weidman, Matt Serra and Frankie Edgar along with UFC contenders Al Iaquinta, Uriah Hall, Costas Philippou, Edson Barboza, Ryan Laflare and Chris Wade.
